Remie Stronks

We live in a time of information overload, where some people in power spread lies to maintain control. They fear the truth because it threatens their power. We need press freedom, protection of journalists, and reliable, truthful information. With Colossal, I hope to inspire people to reflect on these issues.

Growing up surrounded by music, Remie fell in love with loud drums and guitars at a very early age. In his later teens becoming inspired by albums like “Burn My Eyes” by Machine Head and “Demanufacture” by Fear Factory, he decided to learn how to play guitar when he was 21. Influenced by bands like Opeth, Meshuggah, Nevermore, Dream Theater and his huge dedication on practicing as much as he could (up to 12 hours per day), Remie developed a unique playing style.

His musical journey includes early band experiences covering 90s alternative rock, influenced by bands like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. He later joined the metalcore bandSoulnerve but faced challenges performing live, due to not being a full band. A year in Papua New Guinea brought new inspiration, leading to a collaboration with Carlos and the formation of Colossal.

In Colossal, along with Carlos and Fatima, they focus on socially relevant issues such as climate change, colonialism, freedom of speech, LGBTQ+ rights, and press freedom. Remie is particularly passionate about press freedom due to his work with Free Press Unlimited.

Another fact about Remie, is his passion for photography.
